If you are wondering what time of day to take your photos, I can help! I hold my sessions during a very precise time of day. That is in the last 60-90 minutes of the day just before the sun sets. This will vary throughout the year depending on sunset times. In January the sunset is around 5pm, so we would need to start your session at 3:30 or 4pm, where as in June the sun sets around 8:30pm so we would need to start your session around 7pm.

Why is shooting at sunset so important? I’m glad you asked hahahah
If I were to hold your session let’s say mid day, right at noon, the light would be very harsh and bright. The light would be directly overhead, and cast dark shadows on your skin, making for greyish skin tones, your eyebrows would be doing their job, shading your eyes, and make dark circles under your eyes, and the ground and landscape around you would have bright and dark spots. None of these things look good in photos. I want you to look amazing in your photos and lighting is very important when it comes to that. Being a senior Portrait Photographer in Natomas, I am constantly checking sunset times. When the sun is lower in the sky(the last 60-90 minutes before sunset) the sun starts to glow and light up the earth. That ooeeyy goooeeeyyy golden light streams through the trees and gives your skin tones the perfect golden glow and even lighting. I like to put the sun behind my subjects to light them up perfectly.
Sunset light also can convey emotions. If I catch the light perfectly I can make your pose truly capture you…which is absolutely what we are striving to do!
