Are you wondering what time of year you should take your photos? I’m here to help! I am going to take you through every month of the year and highlight what is in bloom… or not in bloom and just looks great in photos! Are you ready? Let’s go!

January

Winter has settled in and there isn’t much in bloom. But not to worry, we can take a quick trip up the mountain and play in the snow for some amazing unique photos. Tahoe is just a quick drive away and we can capture the beauty of the white blanketed ground.

February

The Almond Orchards and magnolia trees give such an enchanting, magical vibe. The trees are covered in the most beautiful tiny white blooms and the way they cascade onto the ground is magnificent. Pastels and cream color palettes are perfect for this location.

March

Yellow Buttercup flowers blanket the ground here in Sacramento, but you have to know of the perfect location… which I do! These flowers and the sun streaming through the trees give you all the warm and fuzzy feelings inside. The mustard and wildflowers are also in bloom, and can grow as tall as your waist! They are the perfect backdrop for a Spring session.

April

The Lupines are in bloom… oh the lupines! They are the prettiest purplish blue color you ever did see. It is as if God himself painted each petal and covered the beaches of Folsom Lake. It is quite a site!

May

Rows of lavender cover the hillside. There is nothing better than the aroma that this beautiful plant gives off. Having a photo session in the lavender fields is the perfect start to summer, lavender doesn’t bloom long, so be sure to book early.

June

Summer has finally arrived and the sunflowers are in full bloom. The huge blooms that are larger than your head and as tall as you are, are quite a site. Reds, blues and creams are a beautiful palette to pull from when shooting in the sunflowers.

July

The beach of course! Most blooms have died off from the heat so now is the perfect time to get those amazing beach photos you have always wanted. Dipping your toes in the water and playing in the sand is the perfect session for any family that wants to document those sweet moments.

August

Pampas grass is such a whimsical plant! We can add it to a chair, have the kids play with in it, or use it as a beautiful background.

September

It is still pretty hot in September and we haven’t quite entered Fall and all the beautiful colors. But the dry grass lends for such a country feel. That golden wheat color of dried grass looks great with whatever color you choose. Perfect for some boots and a cute summer dress.

October

The Zinnia is blooming by now. The rows the farmers have planted in Apple Hill make for quite the color explosion! Every color of the rainbow for as far as you can see… such a beautiful site!

November

Fall has arrived and all the trees have changed their colors. Vibrant oranges, reds and yellows, pop up all over the greater Sacramento region. Get your cozy scarves, beanies and sweaters, and let’s document this season!

December

Christmas Tree Farms! Grab your jammies and your matching sweaters, it’s time for Christmas Card photos and what better place to take these than a Christmas Tree Farm!!
