What to Wear to your senior portrait session | Elk Grove Senior Portraits
What to Wear to your senior portrait session, Elk Grove Senior Portraits.
Stuck on what to wear? I’m here to help! Here are some of my favorite tips to help guide your outfit choices! Well prepared clothing choices take an image from good to fantastic, so it’s important that you dedicate some time to choosing outfits you’ll love seeing on yourself time and time again. I know how daunting this task may seem, but with my help we can make picture perfect styling choices!
If you do not like fitted clothing then leave them at home! So, if there are pieces in your closet that make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable, don’t include them in your senior portrait wardrobe! Additionally, we will most likely be sitting on the ground, laying down, walking and doing other things that could be difficult if your clothing is uncomfortable!
When choosing outfits for your senior session, try to choose colors that POP and that compliment your hair + skin color. Pick a palette that suits you, if you like blue tones, earthy colors and neutrals, wear that and pair it with a texture or pattern. Sometimes, color combos that may seem odd in-person end up photographing AMAZINGLY!
In the cold months (fall + winter), adding layers to your outfits always looks STUNNING in portraits! A sweater with a cute top underneath + statement necklace or scarf adds so much dimension to your images and makes for super fun posing options! Not only will it provide more visual interest in each photo, but it will also allow for more variety in your shots. Even in the warmer months (spring + summer)you can add layers and dimension by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer cardigan or by throwing a denim vest over a dress, or add a hat or an accessory.
4.PLAY WITH TEXTURES & PATTERNS
Adding a texture or pattern to your clothing choice can make the biggest difference, and it prevents the images from looking dull! When thinking about adding texture, choose different ones that will give your photos some interest such as lace, fur, sequins, leather, denim, and knits. Textures and patterns are always a great idea!
5.DON’T BE AFRAID TO ACCESSORIZE
During a senior session, or any photo session, accessorizing is key! When planning outfits don’t forget accessories! Stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, hats, bright shoes and other add-ons can make the outfit!
6.MIX IT UP
When planning your outfits, make sure that you have a VARIETY of looks! I tell all of my seniors to choose from these categories: casual, cozy, dressy, school- related, sports-related, preppy or edgy. I always recommend choosing 2-3 of those categories and finding outfits accordingly. This provides a perfect array of looks during your senior portrait session, so each outfit looks dramatically different!
I love to offer the opportunity for an clothing change during the session. this gives you the opportunity to get a few different looks and feels with your session while maximizing our time together. WARNING: You may need to change in your car, depending on where we are shooting! I also carry a pop up dressing room in my car that we can use. Just be prepared for the adventure.
8.KEEP THE LOCATION IN MIND
Always keep your session location in mind when choosing your outfit. If your session is happening in a city dress up a bit more than you normally would to match the bustling vibe of the city. If you’ve selected a more natural environment, choose something a bit more casual and cozy.
9. BE YOU BUT MAKE IT CHIC!
Your photo session is an occasion and should be treated as one. You don’t need to wear a formal gown, but do amp it up a bit. And the number one rule of styling… Don’t forget all shoes will be seen in photos. Every photo won’t have your shoes showing but a lot will, so leave the dirty sneakers at home hahahah
And be mindful of chipped nail polish… we want you to look stunning from head to toe!
Stick to your style above all and that will shine through in the photos. Being you is IMPORTANT! I want to capture your authentic self!
Elk Grove Senior Photos.
Wherever you decide to do your session, make sure that it captures you at this time in your life. I want you to look back on your photos and smile, and be proud to show them off.
